Population: 7.05 million (December 2022). The main ethnic groups are Turkmen (94.7%), Uzbeks (2%), and Russians (1.8%). In addition, there are over 120 ethnic groups (1.5%), including Kazakhs, Armenians, Tatars, and Azerbaijanis. The official language is Turkmen, and Russian is the lingua franca. 1. Trademark Registrable Elements and Types
Elements that can be registered as trademarks in Turkmenistan include: text, graphics, symbols, slogans, three-dimensional logos, color combinations, etc.

4. Application Procedure and Timeline
Filing: the 11th edition of Nice Classification is adopted; multiple-class applications are possible; the first-to-file principle is followed
Formalities examination: 2-3 months
Publication/Opposition: There is no formal opposition procedure, but objections can be raised during the trademark examination process.
Substantive examination: 7-8 months
Registration: It takes about 12-13 months from filing to registration (if smooth).
Publication: Can apply for invalidation or cancellation before the Appeal Committee
5. Protection Period and Renewal
The validity period is 10 years from the date of registration and can be renewed for 10 years each time before expiration
5. Assignment
Allowed for both pending and registered trademarks. An assignment agreement is required and the processing time is approximately 3-6 months.
5. Chang of Name/Address
Both pending and registered trademarks can be changed, and a notarized proof of change is required, which takes approximately 3-6 months.
8. Cancellation
Non-use Cancellation: If a trademark has not been used for three consecutive years, any interested party may file a cancellation request for the non-used trademark.
